Per a study from the Johns Hopkins Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, “afternoon/evening may be a high-risk period for overeating, particularly when paired with stress exposure, and for those with binge eating.”
Well, I'm not sure about you, but I can recall several moments in which I stress-ate over the years. Stress eating allowed me to feel like I was releasing the stress in the act of eating. However, for me, it's an act of responding to a problem while not sorting out the underlying issues. In the end, I have gained another issue without addressing the first problem. So, over time, I have decided to craft the skill of redirection.
Redirecting the mind is powerful, yet at times, difficult to achieve. If you tend to be a glass-half-full person, it may be easier for you to find the good and positive in situations and around you. I have always admired those who are patient, positive, and allow time to bring the needed moment to them. That's wisdom. Knowing when to be still. Knowing not to stress. Knowing not to react. Knowing confidently that the moment will reveal itself in time.
Isn't this a skill we all want? It's a skill that is crafted over time with experience, a desire to learn, and a desire to be your best. Being able to really SEE what challenges you and how you help or add to your challenges is self-awareness at its finest.
I can hear the words of a friend and scholar in my ears; in every conversation, he shares, "Life is a series of choices with consequences." That is true. So, let's make the best decisions that we can so that we can create the optimal results.
